Margie Lawrence: Cubbie Blues' Cover Artist
FIVE MINUTES WITH MARGIE LAWRENCE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
MY BRUSH WITH THE CUBS: I saw Billy Williams leaving the ballpark a couple of years ago and shouted, for all the hear, “Hey, everyone, it’s Ernie Banks!” He looked at me with mild amusement.
WHO WERE YOU?: I was one of the first girls to actually play with the Little League boys, but was not allowed to play in the “real games.” I was a pitcher, so of course I was Fergie. If I was at shortstop, which was my other position, I was Ernie. Here I was a short Jewish girl, wanting to be a black ballplayer. I love America!
WORKING ON: A very erotic painting of Jimmy Foxx and Ted Williams. Yum!
DAY JOBS: Graphic designer, Illustrator, Artiste, Professional Napper
ARTIST I’D HIRE TO MANAGE THE CUBS: Myself! With Bill Murray as bench coach.
THE CUB I’D MOST WANT TO LIVE INDEFINITELY IN MY BASEMENT: Right now it would be Mr. Rookie of the Year, Geovony Soto, and Derrek Lee. I can’t make up my mind. EEEEEEEEE.
MOST CHERISHED CUBS MEMORIES: Watching the 1969 Cubs on WGN, and being at the first game after 9/11.
BEST PIECE OF CUBS MEMORABILIA: A Sammy Sosa home run ball from ’98.
THE CUBS WILL WIN IT ALL IN 2009 BECAUSE: Can we not talk about this, just like we don’t talk about a no-hitter when it is happening?
THE CUBS WON'T WIN IT ALL IN 2009 BECAUSE: Like I said, can we not talk about this? Isn’t it how you play the game? Isn’t it about being in fresh air and sunshine? The camaraderie in the bleachers? The ambiance of the most famous ballpark in the world? Fuck it, if they lose, I am seriously considering becoming a hockey fan.
